A Rebuttal to Mr. Haruki Wada's Article
Katsumi Sato, Chairperson of NARKN and President of Modern Korea Institute
Mr. Haruki Wada, a former professor at Tokyo University, wrote "Re-examining 'alleged abduction of Japanese'" in the January and February issues of Sekai, a monthly Japanese magazine. In the article, he casts doubt on the actuality of kidnappings by North Korean agents. North Korea seems to welcome this article wholeheartedly. An English translation of the article has recently appeared on the homepage of Choson Sinbo, the official paper of Chosen Soren (http://www.korea-np.co.jp/pk/156th_issue/2001022112.htm), which is allegedly an association fostering friendship among North Korean residents in Japan, but actually a front organization under the control of the North Korean authorities. Indeed defected members reveal that the organization itself has been involved in several kidnappings.
In order to rebut his unfounded claim, I wrote "Don't talk utter nonsense, Professor Wada!" in the April 2001 issue of Shokun!, a monthly Japanese magazine. I abridge and revise it for English readers.
