Today, Rep.
　 Michael M. Honda (CA - 15) introduced H.R. 1397,
a piece of legislation that would provide relief to a group of Korean victims of immigration fraud.
Over a twelve year period, an INS supervisor accepted $500,000 in bribes
from immigration brokers in exchange for green cards that he later illegally authorized.
The supervisor and four immigration consultants were convicted of participating in this green-card scam,
which affected 275 Korean immigrants, many of whom are accomplished professionals and their children.
Many of these legal immigrants now face imminent deportation due to fraud on the part of a government officer.
Rep. Honda’s legislation would restore the status of the victims as if the fraud had not occurred.
