The Osaka prefectural police arrested a 37-year-old Japanese man Monday on a charge of buying sex from an underage girl in Cambodia, marking the first arrest under a 1999 law that prohibits paying for sex with a minor, even in another country.

Takeshi Ozawa, a resident of the city of Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, is alleged to have paid a 14-year-old Vietnamese girl $550 to have sex with him in a hotel in Phnom Penh between Dec. 30 last year and Jan. 4 this year, even though he knew she was under 18, according to investigators.
