South Korean capital investment rose 10.4 percent in the third quarter, central bank data show. By comparison, Japanese capital spending tumbled a record 26 percent, according to the Finance Ministry. In crisis-hit 2008, Korean spending slipped 2 percent, compared with a 37 percent cut by Japanese companies in the year to March 2009. The state-run Korea Development Institute forecasts investment will surge 17 percent next year.
