What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility, a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

私たちに今求められているのは、新しい責任の時代に入ることです。全てのアメリカ人が、自分たち自身への責任と、国への責任と、世界への責任を認識することが必要です。不承不承に責務を担うのではなく。全身全霊を尽くす難しい仕事を与えられるより他には、心が充実し、人格を作り上げてくれるものはないのだと言う考えを認識した上で、進んで喜んで責任を受けいれることが必要なのです。
