日本と韓国の議論の広場

11月4日夜の、勝利演説。

「バーミンガムの消火ホース」も。権利拡大を求めてデモ行進する黒人住民に対し、警官隊が水力の強烈な消火ホースを使って放水し抑制したこと。そして「セルマの橋」と「We Shall Overcome（私たちは克服する）」という言及も。全ては、50年代から60年代にかけての米公民権運動に関する、大事なキーワードでした。



I have a dream

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

闘争は尊厳と規律をもって進めていかなくては駄目です。抗議行動は創意工夫をもって行い、暴徒にだけはなり下がらない。繰り返します。物理的な力に魂の力で立ち向かう、その高みを我々は目指していかなくてはならないのです。

And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:

From every mountainside, let freedom ring!

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

その日…その日ありとあらゆる神の子は新しい意味を込め、こう歌うのです。

わが国は汝の国、自由の地なれば、ここに謳わん。
ここは父が骨を埋めた地、巡礼開拓者の誇り高き地なれば、
ありとあらゆる山腹から自由の鐘よ、鳴れ！

And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

But not only that:

Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

We Shall Overcome

　 地方参政権問題は、在日韓国人の法的地位向上委員会で討議された後、
共同声明に反映された。その中で韓国側は、現在国会に提出されている「永住
外国人に対する地方選挙権付与に関する法律案」の審議及び実現に日本側の
格別なる協力を要請した。これに対して日本側は、与野の合意を導き出すために
努力していると表明した。

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day在日同胞が総理大臣になることも可能かもしれません。そうなると日韓友好関係は、今よりいっそう進むでしょうけどね。

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.
