MB watch-san. Thank you.
MB watch-san,
Thank you for replying my message and provide your insight into the issue. First of all, please excuse me for using English because my Japanese skills are not very good.
In China, ethnic issues have always been a veryinteresting area of research. The whole issue cannot be explained by just a few words. However, please allow me to present my views. It is true that maybe not all Chinese (Han and minorities) want Chinese rule. Han Chinese make up about 92% of the wholepopulation while 8% are the minorities. A small group of minorities such as some Tibetans and Uygurs don't want Chinese rule. However, in any country (even a democracy), it is impossible to have 100% agreement on all issues. There must exist some oppositionand the most important thing for the government to do is make sure that the minority is taken care of and not be left out. The best way to do it is to guarantee them a decent living and make the economy prosperous. This way, it will make both theminorities and the government happy. Aside from the the Uygurs and Tibetans, there are also ethnic Koreans who reside in China's northeast. The main reason why they are there is because the Japanese government forces (or encourages?) them to live in Manchuria. This was part of their aggression plan. After the war, these ethnic Koreans still lived there and the Chinese government set up Yanbian Autonomous Region to let them govern themselves. I think this is very good because it allow them to preserve theirculture. This must be done because two ethnic groups can live together in harmony only if they respect each other. This is quite true. I read some of the messages written by ethnic Koreans in China and I was really happy to hear that they did not experiencediscrimination in China. I was even happier to hear one of them say that he wants to thank China for letting him grow up in a decent environment. I was really moved. Now, this was not from the Chinese governemnt; it was coming from the mouths of those who actuallylive in China. However, I'm not saying that Yanbian is an utopia but at least there are those who are quite happy with their lives there. Now, sometimes, I think.....why does the western media not report this? Why do they just focus on reporting thenegative things of China? Therefore, western media is biased towards portraying an "evil" China. I'm not sure if Japan is the same as western media too.
MB watch-san.....I guess the equivalent English word for your suggested concept is "GreatChinaism." This is actually quite interesting. In fact, there are a lot of Chinese and ethnic Chinese living in East and Southeast Asia: mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan (except those who don't consider themselves Chinese), Singapore, and the Chinesecommunities in other countries. This indeed has a lot of potential. But, before anything can happen, China (mainland) must become powerful enough to coordinate the power of these places........MB watch-san, I didn't expect you to use such a strong concept of"the inferiority complex of the Chinese people towards the West and Japan." In fact, Chinese people do not feel inferiority to anyone and are actually very proud of our culture and long history. However, because we were victims of western imperialism, werealized the need to modernize and catch up with the west. In the meantime, we must open our minds and learn things from both the west and Japan. It is just that we were late in learning western knowledge. Chinese people are very happy that we can continueto learn and improve new technology. In the meantime, we are very proud of our culture.
MB watch-san, you seem to be not very happy with China. Maybe there were some unhappy experiences. However, it would be very valuable to have an open mindand accept other people's views.
