── The most frightening of the region's infections is Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), which causes internal bleeding and is fatal in about 35 percent of cases. Four cases of what appears to be the disease were reported this week at a hospital in Quetta, Pakistan, near the Afghani border.
