Hijackers forced three commercial airliners packed with passengers to crash into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, in a coordinated terror attack that shook America as perhaps nothing has since the Japanese strike on Pearl Harbor nearly 60 years ago. The White House, Capitol and other government buildings were evacuated as gray smoke billowed from a gaping hole in the west wall of the Pentagon, America’s military headquarters. The 110-story twin towers of the World Trade Center collapsed after the crash, leaving a gaping, smoking void in New York's famous skyline.
