Your points are understandable. However, the US always needs justification for its actions, especially when it has to do with resorting to violence. And those justifications are derived from an American point of view and not from global consensus -- however they always try to gain global acquiescence to their actions.

So before becoming a sensible descisionmaker, America has to learn to accept non-American values and reach a compromise that might not answer to all of their demands (national interest) but which endeavors to solve the root of the problem.
