ここらで飯屋さんもあきらめて、潔く米英連合軍に投降したらどうでしょう。

Saddam Captured Without A Shot Fired

By Jon Smith, Political Editor PA News

The dramatic capture of Saddam Hussein in “Operation Red Dawn” was confirmed today by Paul Bremer, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.

The American-led raid on the town of Ad Dawr, near Tikrit, involved 600 troops and not a shot was fired.

Saddam was described as being “talkative and is being co-operative” by the US military.

The capture came at 5.30pm GMT last night, after US forces received intelligence on two possible hideouts in the town.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said: “I very much welcome the capture last night of Saddam Hussein.

“I pay tribute to the work of the Coalition intelligence and military forces in capturing him.

“This is very good news for the people of Iraq.

“It removes the shadow that has been hanging over them for too long of the nightmare of a return to the Saddam regime.

“This fear is now removed.

“It also gives an opportunity for Saddam to be tried in Iraqi courts for his crimes against the Iraqi people.

“And it gives us an opportunity to take a step forward in Iraq.

“In particular I appeal for the Sunni community and former Baathist officials to grasp the opportunity for reconciliation.

“We should try now to unite the whole of Iraq in rebuilding the country and offering it a new future.”

Saddam was taken without resistance from a “spider hole” in which he had taken cover.

Two AK-47 rifles, a pistol and 750,000 US dollars (£500,000) were also recovered in the raid.

Saddam was taken into US custody and is being held at an undisclosed location.

Nato General Secretary Lord Robertson said Saddam’s capture was “excellent news”.

Mr Bremer told a news conference to cheers: “Ladies and gentlemen ? we got him!”.

He added: Iraq’s future has never been more full of hope. the tyrant is a prisoner.”

The US military said Saddam suffered no injuries in the raid and was in good health.
