On the Holy Eid Al-Adha, President Saddam Hussein received members of pan-Arab Command of Arab Ba'th Socialist Party, Vice-Chairman of Revolution Command Council Izzat Ibrahim, Vice-President Taha Yassen Ramadhan, Vice-President Taha Muhiddin Ma'rouf, Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz, member of Iraq's Regional Command of Arab Ba'th Socialist Party Lieut. The well-wishers congratulated President Hussein on this occasion, praying to Allah to give him the impetus of force and ability to achieve the aims of the great Ba'th and its high principles, foremost the liberation of Palestine and its holy crown, Jerusalem.

President Saddam Hussein has dismissed US accusations that Baghdad had or was seeking weapons of mass destruction as baby talk.

He accused the US of bullying Iraq and said Iraq would stand firm against aggression.

The President said US threats were at least more civilized than the attacks and patrols carried out by US and British warplanes across the so-called no-fly zones imposed by a unilateral US decision.

"They [the Americans] claim to be afraid that Iraq may possess weapons of mass destruction and may give them to terrorist organizations to threaten America," the President said. "This is baby talk."

His Excellency said the US was seeking to make itself feel secure by denying technology to the rest of the world.

"It is a selfish method... so we do not want to enter into discussions with them on a matter that we have dealt with for more than 11 years," President Hussein said, referring to UN sanctions.

President Hussein said any US efforts to overthrow national regime in Iraq would be more civilized than outright bombing campaign, which destroy houses and kill civilians.

"We support that they tread this path... as it is a civilized slogan and better than bombing people and destroying their property," the President said.

Senior Iraqi officers sent telegrams to President Hussein, saying: "We stand ready to face up to and subdue any enemy attack.

"The invaders will not tread on Iraqi soil," the officers warned in comments published by the Al-Qadissiya newspaper.
