ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday stepped up security at all American diplomatic missions and businesses following the videotape slaying of kidnapped Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
An interior ministry official said the missions and US firms doing business in Pakistan also should review their own security arrangements and take greater precautions.
"We cannot rule out attacks on US interests in Pakistan after what was happened with Mr Pearl. The way the kidnappers executed him show they have made-up their mind that they do not care about their own future," the official said.
"We have stepped up our own security and asked them (US citizens and interests) to take extra precautions."
Pearl disappeared in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city of 14 million people, on January 23 as he tried to contact Islamic radical groups and investigate possible links between alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid and the al-Qaeda network of suspected September 11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden. On Thursday US authorities received a videotape showing Pearl's kidnappers cutting his throat.
