事務総長： 　 ...権限についての質問ですが、私はこれまでも、我々の職務を遂行するためにも軍事作戦の早期停止を強く望んでいることを主張してきたつもりです。そして、軍事作戦の当事者たちも、我々が人道支援作戦を展開して人々を助けるためにも、そう望んでいるはずです。米英軍による民間人への被害を抑えることについてはこれまで何度も議論されてきましたが、これについては両国ともに重く受け止めています。
　 また、冬を越えるにあたって人々が必要とするものを供給し、十分な食料を提供するという人道的課題についても、両国は配慮してると思いますし、私はそう信じます。したがって、私はは我々のなすべきごとに専念できるよう、この戦争が早期に終結することを望みます。それが、私のとる立場であります。

...C'est ma premiere question. Et j'en ai une seconde, extremement breve : il y a quelques jours, Mme Mary Robinson avait demande une pause dans les bombardements pour des raisons humanitaires. Est-ce que cette demande, selon vous, est encore d'actualite?

...On the question of the powers, I have indicated that for us what I would want to see is an end to the military operations as quickly as possible so that we can get on with our work. And I suspect those undertaking the operation should also want to see that because we need to be able to step up our humanitarian operation and help the people. And the question of avoiding civilian casualties is something that has been raised many times with the United States and the United Kingdom and they have indicated their own concern about it.
And of course the humanitarian concern and the needs of the population and the assurance that we get in enough food to avoid starvation in the winter is also something that is of importance to them, I hope and I trust as well. And therefore, I hope that we can get this over as quickly as possible for us to focus on that essential task. That is the position that
