Poll: 59% favor dismantling all Gaza settlements

A public opinion poll published Tuesday showed that 59 percent of Israelis back Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's plan to dismantle all settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Thirty-four percent were opposed in the poll, conducted by the Dahaf Institute for Yedioth Ahrononth newspaper, hours after Sharon announced the plan in an interview with Haaretz and in discussions in a meeting of the Likud Knesset faction.
Sharon Monday won a no-confidence motion by only a single vote, after hawks, angry with the announced plan, absented themselves from the Knesset plenum floor.
Pollster Mina Tzemach, who directed the survey, said Tuesday that "There's no question that the fact of the prime minister's imprimatur on the the evacuation increased by a significant degreee the number of Israelis who support this step."
Less than two months ago, a similar survey showed that only 50 percent said they favored such a move.
For the most part, she added, "The same people who oppose the move are those who said they beleived that it was motivated by 'media spin.'"

Yedioth Ahrononth紙の機関の緊急世論調査では
「シャロンのガザからの入植地全面撤退」方針を５９％の国民が支持。
反対は３４％。
２ヶ月もたっていない前回調査では５０％が支持していたので、増加している。
シャロン一流の「口車」という観測もあったが、
「６、７月頃には作業開始」という後追い報道もあったので
どうも本気らしい。
