Two Israelis shot in accident

Two Israelis have been mistakenly shot dead in the West Bank by the Israeli army, which mistook them for Palestinian gunmen, the army said.
The shooting happened southeast of the city of Hebron as the two armed Israelis were travelling in a car, the army said.

Bullets riddled the front of the vehicle, which had the word "security" written in Hebrew on both doors and the hood.
Israeli troops were hunting the suspected Palestinian militants after receiving intelligence warnings that they were planning an attack, the army said in a statement.
The army expressed regret at the error and immediately launched an inquiry into the incident.

イスラエル軍の「エラー」で一般のイスラエル人が死んだのは
このインティファーダ始まってから初めてのこと。
これまでイスラエル軍の軍事行動で関係のないパレスチナ人が殺害されても
「ミス」「しかたない」といった反応しかイスラエル世論にはなかった。
しかし、この事件がきっかけで、軍事行動に対する世論が変わるかも、とちょっと期待。
