Billionaire in frame for top PLO post

A Palestinian billionaire with a home in St John's Wood, London, has emerged as the latest candidate to be the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority.
Munib al-Masri, 67, a former Jordanian cabinet minister, is head of the largest investment company in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and is a close associate of Yasser Arafat, chairman of the authority.

自治政府首相候補に、ロンドン在住のパレスチナ人実業家の名が出てきた。
これまで囁かれてきた候補はファタハのベテランや自治政府官僚ばかりだった。
この人はガザや西岸でもビジネスをやっている人で、妻子は米国人という
言わば「成功したパレスチナ難民」。

Israel's new minister of the interior yesterday promised a revolution in Israeli society, even as progress on peace with the Palestinians appeared to have slowed.
内務相ポストがシャスからシヌイへ移ったことで
イスラエルの市民権や人権等の問題が、少しマトモになりそう。
