Usually at times of crisis, people say to you: "Yes, we are going through a bad period, but it will pass."

This time, they say: "It is very bad now, and we fear it will get worse."

All of them agree that this crisis is more serious and more dangerous than any that has gone before.

The anger is everywhere.

In Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus Christ, now the biggest Arab town in Israel, hundreds of Jewish youths went on the rampage and attacked Arab targets.

イスラエル兵士が多数のアラブ系イスラエル人を殺害し、ユダヤ系イスラエル市民がアラブ系イスラエル市民を襲うという恐るべき民族浄化作戦が行われつつあることがわかります。両者の間の憎悪は高まる一方です。

>Is Arafat in control?

There are doubts about Mr Arafat's ability to control his people. Israel is calling on him to halt the violence but it appears he lacks th power to do so.

Popular feeling is running strongly against any further compromise with Israel and Mr Arafat will be unable to go against 　 the 　 public mood.

イスラエルはアラファトにパレスチナ人の暴動の鎮静化を要求していますが、パレスチナ人のイスラエルに対する敵意は高まる一方で、それに逆らった行動をとることは不可能であり、アラファトはもはや事態を収拾する力を失っているだろうと分析しています。

ユダヤ人の視聴者が多いアメリカのマスコミと異なり、BBCの報道はより中立的で、イスラエルの抱える問題点を鋭く指摘しています。
