Interviews
We have been fortunate to interview Korean Veterans of the Vietnam War. Each interview has helped us tremendously in the completion of our page. Although they have chosen to stay anonymous, their experiences of the Vietnam War have not.

Q: Why do you think that Republic of Korea sent troops to Vietnam?
A: What I understand is that the economy was needing a lot of help. The Korean War also brought a lot of experience to our soldiers, which could be helpful. The Korean Army had been energetic, so they needed to do something. It was President Park who sent the troops to Vietnam. There was a strong movement against sending troops to Vietnam because the families didn't want their children to be killed in another people's land or war. The U.S. government stressed to the Korean government to send soldiers and fight for them. There was a nice pay increase when we went to Vietnam, the U.S. bought Korean soldiers in packages (paycheck combined from U.S. and Korea). With power over Vietnam, the United States might have some benefits.
Q: Do you think that it was the correct decision to send Korean soldiers to Vietnam?
A: I'd rather say "right" decision instead of "correct" decision, because the Vietnam War, helped Korea to industrialize quicker and helped Koreans learn more about foreign countries, which motivated them to take adventures and travel to other foreign countries instead of staying in Korea. Once many had the experience of foreign countries, it became easier to do business with foreign trades.
